Depression and Anxiety (holistic treatment)

Depressive and anxiety can be very annoying. Depression may be associated with many physical symptoms such as migraine, dizziness, palpitations, visual disturbances, nausea, indigestion, increased temperature and others. If you have any such symptoms, it is advisable to first get tested by your doctor if these symptoms are not caused by any other serious illness. Depression and anxiety may after the recovery of this disease also go away.

The problem is that the sick person is often considered as a simulating person even though he or she really feels bad. Support of family and friends is therefore very important. Depression is also often mistaken for a bad mood. Unnecessary use of antidepressants only for bad mood is becoming more and more common. Taking antidepressants in this case may do more harm than good. The real depression is a very serious disease that should not be underestimated.

If you have severe depression and you thing about suicide or you do not want to get out of bed, it is necessary to visit psychiatrist and consult your treatment!

How can we try to get rid of the symptoms?

Sometimes it helps just complement the vitamins and minerals into your body. You can try the supplement especially all of the B vitamins and vitamin C. It also helps complement of magnesium and potassium, zinc and vitamin D3. Those are the most crucial substances. It is good to supplement vitamin D3 especially in winter time. It is good to do blood tests and hair analysis and find out what is possibly missing. If you do not know it, it's good to start with buying good Multimineral and high doses of vitamin C, all the groups vitamin B and magnesium. It is not possible to overdose with vitamin C and vitamin B, because they are soluble in water. If you overdose with magnesium, you get diarrhea only.

If we focus on herbs, St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) helps the most. If you use the extract, it is good to be taken about 1200 mg per day. That is four times more than the dose what producers in Europe usually recommend per day. Saffron (Crocus longiflorus) has a similar a slightly weaker effects. To alleviate anxiety you can try also Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), Valerian (Valeriana officinalis), Hops (Humulus lupulus) or magnolia-bark extract (Magnolia officinalis). Adaptogens can deliver energy to our exhausted body. Ginseng (Panax ginseng), Rhodiola rosea or Maca (Lepidium meyenii) are the most known adaptogens. It is also good to supplement Omega 3 fatty acids best as linseed oil or fish fat. If you have trouble falling asleep, try melatonin before bedtime.

There are many opinions about what diet helps with mental health problems. It is true that every body needs for proper function of the nervous system a different kind of diet. Generally, it is good to omit the simple carbohydrates and to consume appropriately complex carbohydrates. This is important for the state of the intestinal microflora. Carbohydrates disrupt the intestinal microflora and prevent the absorption of other nutrients in the body and further correct production of serotonin. If you reduce carbohydrates, blood sugar levels are not fluctuating so much and it is also important for psychological well-being. Disturbed intestinal microflora causes a lack of minerals and vitamins, toxins are absorbed into the body and disrupt the nervous system as well.

So, it is good to completely skip sweets and desserts for ideal microflora. To restrict white bread, dumplings, rice, potatoes, pasta and ideally replace it with healthier alternatives like vegetables or at least legumes. Ideally to omit gluten and not fermented milk products and not fermented soy products. It is also good to consume probiotic foods like kefir, yoghurt, sauerkraut without preservatives or quality probiotics supplements. Of course to not smoke, to not drink alcohol, to not drink sweet and caffeinated drinks. Trying to avoid a highly industrially processed foods like fast foods, chips, popcorn, poor quality sausages. Rather, it is good to eat vegetable, fruit, nuts, eggs, quality meat, fishes, olive oil, coconut oil and to drink water, green and herbal teas. It often helps Candida or Low-carbohydrate diet.

It is important to change your mind if you are depressed and to remember that our condition is not caused by external events. The origin of our state is mostly in our minds that we can influence. It is good to avoid unnecessary stress and learn how to better manage stress, which can not be avoided. Stress itself does not destroy us as much as our reactions to it. Learn how to respond to the current situation in the peace and ignore the things you can not control. On the other side, try to improve gradually everything what you can control. Try to change your life to be more happy. You can always improve your life somehow. Do not say it can not. When necessary, so do not try to hold back anger or sadness. Cry, or shout and try to gradually solve things what leads to these situations. Try to enjoy the simple things, relax, do sports and have active rest (preferably outdoor), find a hobby. Remember that happiness is not about the great material wealth and skyrocketing career, but mainly about the working family, love and relationships with people in your area. On the other hand, a life without money is not good, so do not be afraid of making money. If you will be happy, the money will come too. The ideal compromise is to have a job that you enjoy. Learn to make compromises, but say peacefully our opinion. Do not judge others and help sometimes people from the neighborhood, so you'll be happy too. We can build our happiness by how we think and how we behaves.

Try to observe thoughts that lead to your depression and anxiety and gradually learn to avoid them. If you can not sleep because you wonder what you did wrong, try to ban such ideas in the bed. While falling asleep try to think about something pleasant - for example your last vacation, etc. Regular sleeping is very important when you are depressed. It's just your decision what about you think. Control your thoughts, do not allow thoughts to control you. Note of the situations that worsen your anxiety or induce panic attacks. Try to train such a situation. Do you have a problem going to the mall because there you get panic attacks? Find a friend who goes there with you as your guide. Repeat that all your problems are only psychological and it could happen nothing bad. Expose yourself these situations gradually and train until the anxiety subsides in these situations. Consult with your psychologist about how to train. Various methods of meditation, autogenous training, breathing exercises or yoga are sometimes very helpful.
